Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this membership and The Aesthetic Society membership?
The Aesthetic Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a membership element, whereas The Aesthetic Society is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit membership-based organization.
While both The Aesthetic Foundation and The Aesthetic Society advance the field of aesthetics, they do so in different ways. The Aesthetic Foundation's focus on research and fundraising and The Aesthetic Society's focus on education and the aesthetic community complement each other and, together, drive professional development, improved patient safety, and aesthetic progress.
Although similar, membership in The Aesthetic Society can provide more personalized member benefits, whereas membership in The Aesthetic Foundation affects the specialty as a whole. We recommend all members join both organizations to maximize their ability to both receive and give back to the specialty.
Why is The Aesthetic Foundation membership-based?
When we initially formed The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (“The Aesthetic Foundation”), we applied for 501(c)(3) status and designated it as a membership organization. The Aesthetic Society could not accept charitable donations due to how their organization was incorporated, so the goal was to establish a charitable foundation with a close connection to The Aesthetic Society. While membership is part of the legal formation of The Aesthetic Foundation, our membership dues are only $200/year, so we are inclusive of any board-certified plastic surgeon who wants to join and get involved.
What do my membership dues cover?
All membership dues are considered a tax-deductible charitable donation supporting our overall mission. We apply them toward research grants, The Aesthetic Meeting education and fundraising efforts, and the day-to-day administration of projects and programs supporting our mission.
What is the membership duration?
$200 dues paid cover a calendar year of membership from January 1–December 31.
How can I display that I’m a member of The Aesthetic Foundation?
You can display The Aesthetic Foundation logo on your website, social media, and other advertising.
