Lymphatic Anatomy of the Nasal Soft Tissue Envelope and Correlation with Rhinoplasty
Project Summary:

Background: The nasal lymphatics are injured during rhinoplasty surgery. The aim of this study is to identify the lymphatics drainage of the soft tissue nasal envelope prior to and then after transcolumellar/marginal incisions simulating an open rhinoplasty approach. We will compare the lymphatic patterns prior to incision against two different experimental arms consisting of the two most common dissection planes in rhinoplasty surgery. The lymphatics will be mapped by injecting indocyanine green into the skin of the nasal radix/tip and then mapping the lymphatics with fluorescence lymphangiography. This information will potentially help the rhinoplasty surgeon select which dissection plane is less disruptive to the lymphatics of the soft tissue envelope.
